Location: Scarborough, Hambleton and Ryedale, North Yorkshire
Purpose: North Yorkshire and York Local Enterprise Partnership has developed a strategy to become the first region to reach carbon negativity. Energy efficiency measures were introduced as a part of this, as emissions from homes are the regions second highest emitting sector (transport is first). Additionally the council is concerned about the impact of the cost of living crisis on households and in particular the impact of rocketing energy bills.
Description: Many of the rural homes in the region are centuries old and are energy inefficient. The council has set up the scheme with YES Energy Solutions. The scheme will help households earning £30,000 or less to see their homes fitted with insulation, solar panels, and air source heat pumps. The scheme is open to homeowners and private tenants (although the landlord needs to contribute one third of the bill) with up to £25,000 of energy efficiency measures. The council believes that up to 500 households could benefit from the scheme.
Funding: £8 million from the Green Homes Grant Local Delivery Scheme
Conservative councillor / council lead: Executive Member for both stronger communities and climate change, Cllr Greg White and Executive Member with housing responsibilities, Cllr Simon Myers.
