We know CEN supporters have differing views on specific environmental issues, but we ask that you pledge your commitment to some broad principles which we think underpin conservative environmentalism.
ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE
We believe that climate change creates severe risks for stability and prosperity at home and abroad, and that the UK must therefore continue to lead the way not only in promoting adaptation but also in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
ACTION TO PROMOTE CLEAN GROWTH
We believe that the best future for the UK manufacturing and services sectors lies in clean growth, and that government policy should therefore support R&D and investment in clean technologies.
ACTION TO BUILD PROPERLY DESIGNED HOUSING
We believe that the nation has a responsibility to ensure the provision of high quality, affordable homes for all our people — and that house building, if properly conducted, is fully compatible with preserving and enhancing the quality of the environment.
ACTION TO PRESERVE SPECIES AND ENHANCE THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
We believe that the UK must conserve and enhance our green spaces and the wildlife they support, and must protect the landscapes that make our communities beautiful places to live and grow up.
ACTION TO REDUCE WASTE AND PRESERVE NATURAL RESOURCES
We believe that natural resources must be used in the most efficient way to minimise waste and our footprint on the planet. We therefore embrace the principles of a circular economy, and reject the wasteful practices of throw-away culture.
ACTION TO TACKLE AIR POLLUTION
We support the promotion of electric vehicles, cleaner ways to heat people’s homes, and active transport, alongside increased planting of trees to tackle air pollution on our roads and streets.
