Director of the Conservative Environment Network (CEN) Sam Hall today congratulated Rishi Sunak on his appointment as Prime Minister:
"We congratulate Rishi Sunak on his appointment as Prime Minister. We welcome his pledge to deliver on the 2019 manifesto, which promised the most ambitious environmental programme of any country on Earth.
"We hope he will end the uncertainty about the direction of the government's environmental policy and recommit to ambitious action on climate change and nature loss.
"Protecting our environment doesn't mean sacrificing economic growth. Green measures can reduce the cost of living, create employment, investment and export opportunities, and safeguard our natural capital, which is the bedrock of our long-term prosperity and security."
Rishi Sunak signed the Conservative Environment Pledge to continue the party’s environmental leadership, deliver net zero by 2050 and halt the decline in nature by 2030. During the previous leadership campaign, he also wrote a message to CEN supporters and councillors saying “I am absolutely committed to protecting our environment for future generations”.
