West Midlands Combined Authority and West Midlands local authorities: Starley Network


  • Location: Across the West Midlands

  • Purpose: The combined authority has set an ambitious plan for the region to reach net zero by 2041. As part of the delivery the combined authority has been looking to reduce emissions from the transport sector by increasing the number of high quality walking and cycle paths.

  • Description: The Starley Network pulls together existing routes, proposed new cycle lanes and pop up lanes from the Emergency Active Travel Fund to form a vision for a 500 mile network. The 500-mile network will consist of dedicated active travel paths with users either away from or segregated from traffic.

  • Funding: Transport for the West Midlands (TfWM) has allocated £260 million to the local authorities to deliver their contributions to the network.
