  • Location: Torbay Council

  • Purpose: The Greener Way For Our Bay is the Torbay Council’s climate and partnerships action plan, which aims to reduce emissions and tackle climate change. The initiative was launched to help provide the council with a combination of short and long-term strategies for helping reach the UK’s net zero by 2050 target.

  • Description: The plan was developed by the Torbay Climate Partnership following a consultation period where local stakeholders, from businesses to residents, fed in. When launched at the end of 2023, it set out ten key priority areas, including nature-based actions, transport and the power sector that the council should be focusing on and provided strategies to do so

  • Funding: A combination of public and private financing is used as the plan lays out strategies that the council and the community can take to cut emissions across a broad range of areas. To deliver a zero-emissions bus fleet, the Council, in partnership with Stagecoach, was awarded £7.1m from the Zero Emission Bus Regional Area (ZEBRA) funding.
