Northumberland and Durham County Council: Go smarter, go active

  • Purpose: As part of the North East Transport Plan, local authorities in the region are looking to improve active travel and sustainable transport provision. The plan cites both local authorities' obligation to the natural environment and the physical and mental wellbeing of local residents. The go smarter, go active campaign encourages residents to use active transport to get around.

  • Description: The campaign promotes resources to help residents feel more confident about walking and cycling as a means of commuting. It highlights walking and cycling routes across the North East. This includes routes for leisure and commuting, learn to cycle, bikeability and maintenance courses.

  • Funding: The campaign is a partnership between the seven North East local authorities and the funding was provided by the Department for Transport’s Active Travel Fund.
