Leicestershire County Council: Watch Your Waste cooking classes

  • Purpose: Not only does it waste the valuable resources, inputs, and land used to grow the food, wasted food also releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas, when it decomposes. The aim of these classes and courses is to give residents the opportunity to learn food waste prevention skills with the support of a tutor. Through these free courses, this council helped to raise awareness of the issue of food waste among residents and provide them with resources and skills to reduce food waste at home.

  • Description: Watch Your Waste’ is a programme of free cooking classes organised by the council for residents. The core purpose of the programme is to educate residents about how to reduce their food waste at home, equipping them with practical skills to do so. The classes took place both in-person and online, with the in-person ones held at one of the community kitchens in Leicestershire.
