  • Location: Lancashire

  • Purpose: The plan was developed to make it easier and more practical for people to walk and cycle, encouraging more residents to use these healthy, sustainable modes of transport.

  • Description: Two phases of public engagement were carried out in the development of the plan. The first helped the council understand thoughts on the current network and suggestions for developing it. They then drafted an initial plan which they received further feedback on. Around 7,600 people shared their views. This plan has then been used secure funding to deliver the schemes.

  • Funding: Lancashire County Council recently received a number of transport-related capital grants totalling £32,263,755 from the Department for Transport and Active Travel England for 2025/26, as well as funding from the Levelling Up East Lancashire programme.

  • Council lead: The plan was developed under the Conservatives. Reform UK now runs the council and have welcomed the funding secured.
