Essex County Council: Carbon cutting app

  • Purpose: Essex County Council intends to reach net zero by 2050 and their carbon cutting app will help them to achieve this goal. The app is set to help residents who download it to reduce their carbon emissions, such as through reducing energy consumption at home and improving their recycling habits.

  • Description: The free app will help residents to identify how they can reduce their carbon footprint. The app was designed with Greenredeem and offers carbon tracking and advice for how to change habits across water and energy consumption, transport, waste and health. The app offers solutions and activities such as quizzes and pledges that residents earn points from completing. 

  • Funding: The app was funded through the council’s £200 million Climate Action Plan. 

  • Conservative councillor/ council lead: Cllr Peter Schwier, Climate Czar & Cabinet Member for Environment, Waste Reduction and Recycling.
