Enfield Council, Lamppost Chargers with Char.gy
Location: Enfield, London
Purpose: To provide residents with easy access to electric vehicle (EV) charging points on public highways and public car parks.
Description: The council is working with private companies to expand the network of EV charging points and support wider efforts to reduce air pollution. This includes installing 1,000 new charging points in existing streetlight columns, giving residents without off-street parking the ability to conveniently charge their vehicles close to home and ensuring everyone can access a charger within a short walk of their home. As of July 2026, 214 have been built so far. By using existing infrastructure, the project will reduce costs and avoid unnecessary street clutter. The chargers are intended for residential use, meaning they offer low cost overnight and longer stay charging. Enfield Council has partnered with Char.gy to manage the installation and operation of the charge points, with residents able to suggest locations for new chargers and respond to a statutory consultation. Additionally, the scheme will include installing new standable EV chargers in five locations, which will replace older equipment.
Funding: Char.gy are fully funding the installations and ongoing operations, with council spending no public funds on the scheme.
Conservative Councillor/Council Lead: Cllr Maria Alexandrou, Cabinet Member for Environment
