  • Location: East Riding Yorkshire Council

  • Purpose: The solar carport was installed to help reduce emissions in East Riding Yorkshire Council and build more publicly accessible electric vehicle chargepoints. The solar carport helps electric vehicle users also access renewable energy to charge their vehicles and further lower their carbon footprint.

  • Description: East Riding Yorkshire Council is the first local authority to install a solar carport. The solar carport was installed outside of East Riding Leisure Centre and consisted of 52.4kWp of solar panels and two 7.4kW dual electric vehicle chargepoints. The solar panels are also set to save East Riding Leisure Centre nearly £20,000 per year.

  • Funding: The scheme cost approximately £300,000, and half the funding for the scheme came via the European Regional Development Fund. The other half came via council funding.

  • Conservative councillor/ council lead: Cllr Chris Matthews
