Dorset Council: White Hart Link

  • Purpose: Dorset Council wants to improve access to nature whilst encouraging more walking and engagement with the natural environment. Through this project, the council wants to engage local communities, landowners, and businesses along the route. The purpose of the route is to encourage walking as a sustainable means of transport, as well as providing opportunities for outdoor activities, and to serve as a focal point for other local health, education, heritage, art and tourism projects.

  • Description: The project will develop and enhance a 50 mile circular walking route between five market towns in North Dorset and the villages in between. Having established the route, route infrastructure, such as benches and improved signage, have been installed. Efforts to link the main route to other nearby ones, local facilities, and public transport have also been made in order to improve accessibility and usage.

  • Funding: A grant from the Dorset Council Innovation Fund.

  • Conservative councillor/ council lead: Cllr Spencer Flower, leader
