  • Purpose: Wildflowers are important for biodiversity and pollination yet we have lost 97% of our wildflower meadows since the 1930s. Wildflower margins along roads can provide habitat and sustenance to pollinating insects. This council wanted to support small parish councils to establish these beneficial wildflower verges locally by providing resources.

  • Description: In 2022, the council hosted a road verges webinar to town and parish councils across Buckinghamshire, with an expert speaker from Butterfly Conservation, an environmental charity. The purpose of this webinar was to communicate the importance of verges and provide guidance on how to establish them. The event was well attended with over 60 small council representatives. The council followed up after the webinar with a wilder road verges toolkit which provided further information and guidance on wildflower management.
