Purpose: Recognising that its communication with businesses improved during the Covid pandemic and that businesses gained a greater understanding of what the council could do to support businesses, the council wanted to continue to support local businesses. Through its new business resource efficiency programme, this council works closely with local businesses to help them become more resource efficient, reducing waste, and cutting costs in the process.
Description: The council has created a business resource efficiency pack to help businesses to better manage the waste they produce and provide them with advice and guidance on how to manage resources, like water and energy, more efficiently. This has been accompanied by a capital grant scheme for resource efficiency whereby the council allocates 50:50 matched grant funding of up to £20,000 to businesses. This fund is helping startups and small and medium sized businesses to invest in energy and resource efficiency measures, cutting carbon and waste in the process.
Conservative councillor/council lead: Cllr Mike Bird, leader.
Funding: UK Shared Prosperity Fund
