Responding the CCC’s call to make electricity bills cheaper, Elinor Bale, Climate Programme Manager, said:
“Cutting the cost of electricity is vital for growth, easing the cost of living, and also for decarbonisation. The Climate Change Committee is right to put this front and centre and recognise that climate action must go hand-in-hand with a strong economy.
“The Government, however, has prioritised ideology over delivering cheap clean power. Labour’s flagship policies, most notably the Clean Power 2030 target and Great British Energy, risk driving up energy prices even further and undermining the benefits of electrification and clean technologies.
“Without cheap electricity, clean technologies like EVs, heat pumps, and air conditioning will remain unaffordable for the British people. Expanding access to these technologies through cheaper running costs is essential for cutting the cost of living and carbon emissions. The next PM should ditch Labour’s current energy plans, prioritise cheap electricity, and help Britain decarbonise in a pragmatic, affordable way.”
