  • Purpose: The Net Zero Neighbourhoods scheme was designed to help alleviate fuel poverty and help the West Midlands achieve net zero by 2041. The project was a pilot to help reach net zero by installing decarbonisation measures to help lower energy bills and also creating greener neighbourhoods.

  • Description: In 2022, Brockmoor within Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council was chosen to pilot the Net Zero Neighbourhoods. Funding was received from the West Midlands Combined Authority for phase one of the project. 300 homes initially benefited from the net zero measures installed through the project. Measures installed included retrofitting of decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures, and the installation of green roofs, sustainable drainage systems and solar panels.

  • Funding: The Council’s Net Zero Neighbourhoods plan which they submitted to the West Midlands Combined Authority, won the funding. Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council was, as a result, awarded £1.65m by the West Midlands Combined Authority to deliver it.

  • Conservative councillor/ council lead: Cllr Dr Rob Clinton
