Bad behaviour on buses is driving passengers away

Anti-social behaviour is driving people away from using buses and damaging the UK’s push for clean air, the shadow transport secretary has warned.

Richard Holden said unreliable services and rowing concerns about personal safety were driving a decline in the use of public transport.

He said there was now an “everyday reality of anti-social behaviour on buses, which rose by 24 % from 2024 to last year. 

In an essay for te Conservative Environment Network, a campaign group, he said:”More often than not, this is not serious criminality, but rather the irritation caused by loud music, vaping, and rowdy, inconsiderate behaviour - such as shoes on seats - all of which erode passengers; sense of comfort and security.”
