Did you know that our bars and cafes must apply and pay for licences to put tables and chairs on the street outside? If you want to rent an e-bike to travel to your local cafe on, current rules can prevent you from travelling across borough boundaries on the same bike. Meanwhile, if you ride your own bike, planning rules make it harder to guarantee you will have anywhere safe to store it when you arrive. You’d better hope it is not a hot day when you are travelling because the law also makes it very difficult to plant new street trees that can help to cool the road underneath.
Our latest campaign is calling on the government to cut the red tape that is holding us back from creating cleaner, greener communities:
✂️ Scrap the Table Tax so hospitality businesses can let customers sit on the pavement outside. Find out more here.
✂️ Dismantle the invisible barriers that e-bike users face trying to travel across boroughs.
✂️ Grant permitted development rights to public bike storage to ensure you have somewhere to park in your community.
✂️ Amend the Highways Act 1980 to make it easier to plant trees along our streets. Find out more here.
