About the event

Keir Starmer’s Labour Party aggressively courted the business community ahead of the 2024 general election but has rapidly lost their trust while in government by increasing taxes and public spending and pushing negative rhetoric on the economy.  Labour’s statist approach to net zero risks further alienating corporate Britain, by crowding out private investment, wasting taxpayers’ money, and damaging competition. As parties compete for the support of business, what role does net zero play?


The previous Conservative government began to unlock the economic benefits of net zero through a pro-business approach but did not always champion the most free-market route to net zero. The green economy is now the fastest growing sector of the economy and creating thousands of jobs, but there are concerns about high electricity prices making UK manufacturing uncompetitive.
