About the event

We are delighted to announce that registrations are now open for our waste and resources conference. The conference will take place this October and is open to conservative councillors, candidates, and local leaders.

For many people, waste collection is the defining interaction they have with their local council. A good service can make or break our opinion of an entire council, and with that comes both the need for councils to deliver and the opportunity to excel. Councils are a vital source of information about the issue of waste and what to do with it, as well as a lynchpin for individual and community projects to reduce waste and increase rates of reuse and recycling. Alongside adhering to the new regulations and rules for waste management that the government is currently creating, there are lots of opportunities for councils and local leaders to go above and beyond the national ambition on waste and resources with their own projects.

Join us at the conference to find out about new waste and resources regulations like Simpler Recycling and extended producer responsibility for electronics and packaging, to learn from industry leaders about how you can lead locally on projects and campaigns, and to meet like-minded conservative councillors and local leaders to discuss waste and resources. We will be joined by representatives from:

  • The Environmental Services Association to discuss the policy reforms that will directly impact councils in England
  • The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to discuss how to deliver a successful weekly food waste collection
  • Suez, the waste management firm, to discuss how to introduce reuse to your Household Waste and Recycling Centre
  • Hubbub, the environmental behaviour change charity, to discuss how to reduce litter through changes to your on-street waste infrastructure

We will also be joined by representatives from City to Sea, the British Metals Recycling Association, Future Street, and the Charity Retail Association

The day-long conference will take place in London on Friday 25 October 2024. It is free to attend, and lunch will be provided. Attendees are expected to fund their own travel to and from the venue. For those who would like to attend but will be travelling from further afield, we have reserved a limited number of bedrooms in the venue the night before the conference. These will be allocated after registration closes.

We will be allocating spaces on a rolling basis so please register as soon as possible.

Ways to get involved in CEN:

If you are not already a CEN councillor, you can sign up for free. If you are a local activist or candidate, you can join as a CEN supporter.

You can view our resources, including numerous briefings on waste. We also held an event to discuss how we can boost local recycling rates which you can watch back.

You can also follow us on TwitterFacebookInstagram and LinkedIn to stay up to date with CEN’s work.
