About the event

In an age of global instability, the UK’s security hangs in the balance. Russia's invasion of Ukraine exposed the UK's dangerous dependence on volatile international fossil fuel markets. But could our transition to clean power risk replacing one security threat with another?

The Chinese government has been investing heavily in renewables, and now dominates the global supply chains for critical minerals and clean energy technologies like solar and batteries. Given our significant reliance on Chinese goods, should we just be adding these products to our ever-growing shopping list?

Or should we be looking to take ambitious action to mitigate this security threat, given the importance of energy to our economy and society? And how might actions like onshoring the manufacturing of renewables and critical energy components boost economic growth, particularly in our industrial heartlands?

Join us to discuss how we can create more homegrown, secure energy, whilst reducing our reliance…
