About the event
Britain’s communities are built on small local businesses: they provide jobs and vital services and foster a sense of local pride. They also contribute £1 trillion to the economy. But for some, inflation and high energy costs are hurting their bottom line and put them at risk of closing for good. Councils can support these SMEs to reduce their carbon footprint and cut costs while doing their bit for the environment; be that with grants, workshops, toolkits, public procurement and favourable contracts. Small businesses account for half of UK business emissions and will be integral to decarbonising our economy. How can we ensure that they thrive at the heart of our communities as we transition to net zero?
