About the event
Tackling generational environmental challenges like climate change and biodiversity loss is best done as one United Kingdom. Recent polling commissioned by CEN showed that Scottish voters agree. Conservatives have a proud history of environmental leadership, most recently including making the UK the first major economy to enshrine a net zero target. The environment in Scotland and the wider UK would be best served by a pro-market, unionist approach, with Holyrood, Stormont, Cardiff, and Westminster working together under common regulatory frameworks. A patchwork approach will hold back businesses from delivering the necessary transitions in sectors like energy, waste, and agriculture.
This reception at the Scottish Conservative party conference will launch the CEN Scottish Parliamentary group. The group will provide MSPs with a platform to debate and champion environmental policies, and support them in developing a distinct conservative and unionist narrative and policy agenda for the environment. CEN will support the MSPs to keep up the pressure on both the Scottish and UK governments to deliver on their climate and environment targets.
